We often visualize a dull sound, object or pavement as “flat.” A form of lackluster;
boring and unexciting. When perceived in an alternative point of view “flat”
actually bares a positive connotation. When something is flat it is typically
balanced, calm and in order. We live in the age of high speed data transfer, which
like the bandwidth in our office, our wireless devices, and our homes we absorb
and regurgitate information almost as quick as we can finish piece of chocolate.
We seek excitement in such a rapid pace that with one quick swipe we can find
our next laugh, our next moment of clarity, our next potential fling, and even our
next major purchase rather than going out and truly seeking for it. We forget to
observe the beauty of the present and are often easily distracted by these
objects that deliver temporary forms of entertainment.
This feature fosters to deliver a form of emotional flatness. A form of negentropy
in which the photographic sequences expresses a calm, melancholic treatment
taking place in a suburban neighborhood in Orange County.
In this I wanted to express order, simplicity and most of all stillness. As an artist it
is always important to capture the emotional connectivity between an object; in
this case, the photographs, which are strategically organized to convey a
particular mood, that mood being its "flatness."
